Demi Lucas is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Certified Doula and LLL Leader of 5 years who has build her career in maternal/infant health.
When expecting her oldest daughter, she didn’t know much about newborns but knew she wanted to give her baby the best start possible. After facing challenges when learning to breastfeed her experience led her to becoming a breastfeeding peer support counselor, turned birth/pp doula, student IBCLC and finally an IBCLC.
Demi understands that there are many resources and voices in our ears from the moment we announce a pregnancy. It can all be confusing, conflicting and overwhelming. As an IBCLC, Demi believes the family’s goals are the top priority, and provides an unbiased, professional opinion. She likes to meet her families where they are and create a roadmap to get them where they want to go in their breastfeeding journey, empowering them as the experts on their baby. Sheis a native to the southern Virginia area but has lived in many places through her families military service. While pursuing her IBCLC certification, she completed her clinical internship with Metropolitan Breastfeeding, launched a career as a doula, specializing in birth and postpartum support, and served as an Accredited La Leche League Leader. . In addition to her work at The Lactation Network, She is a member US Breastfeeding Committee and US Lactation Consultant Association. She is passionate about breaking down barriers to lactation care that so many families encounter, and making an impact in lactation and maternal/infant health advocacy in the US.
